As a designer, it’s desirable to feel accepted by our peers in the UX/Product Design community. I mean who doesn’t want recognition and praise for their work? Who doesn’t want to design products that impact the lives of millions or even billions of people around the globe?

In this article, I’m going to give you a major key that will help you land your dream job at your dream company.

The key phrase is “Brand yourself”. Pretty simple huh?

Let me give you a short story first that will help illustrate the point I’m trying to make here.

in 2021 I was unhappy with my career. I wasn’t working on fulfilling work. I would interview at companies and get rejection after rejection. That was until I started “branding” myself. I used Dribbble and Linkedin to leverage my brand as an elite premium User Interface designer.

I started off by designing apps that were in popular genres at the time. For instance NFTs or Crypto. I would then design them as if I were passing these designs off to a real dev team to be implemented into production.

So many designers get this part wrong, they design really cool UI for Dribbble to gain followers and likes but they hardly ever convert to a real job that pays really well.

So that’s where Linkedin comes in handy.

I would add my Linkedin to the description of my post and share it to my Linkedin profile where I would then add it to my featured section.

Now, this awesome work is living where recruiters could find it on two of the platforms they visit to find talent.

I then started utilizing Linkedin more to post learnings, and content around Product Design to leverage myself as an expert in this field.

This allowed me to get in front of big companies that I eventually started working at.

Now my name is a brand across Linkedin and Dribbble as the person who can add value to our company as a premium UI designer.

So with all this being said, If you brand yourself around what it is you are good at larger companies would much rather work with a brand than an average person. They want someone who will make their company more desirable.

I hope this has helped. If you want to learn more you can follow me on Linkedin where I share awesome tips daily.
